MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – Madison’s first fire chief was buried Wednesday in a full fireman’s funeral.  Charles Wallace died Sunday at age 75.

Wallace was the first full-time paid firefighter in Madison.  He retired in 1999 after serving for 35 years.  He spent 30 of those as fire chief.

Wallace’s funeral service was held at Madison Church of Christ on Hughes Road.  Firefighters wore formal dress and rode atop a fire truck, escorting the casket to Madison Cemetery.  A U.S. flag topped the casket.

In a fitting tribute, the truck drove under two ladders, hoisted from trucks, as it turned into the cemetery.
