GoDaddy Monday Outage Appears Resolved
An outage of web services company GoDaddy.com Monday took down websites across the globe. As of Tuesday morning, the problem appeared largely resolved with no reports of personal information compromised despite the hack.
Melissa Rein, a web-business owner from Scottsdale, Arizona has used GoDaddy.com for several years. She first noticed something was wrong Monday when her steady email stream ran dry.
“In an average day I get about 200 e-mails,” Rein said, “So sitting in a meeting for about an hour, my phone wasn’t buzzing and I knew something had to be wrong.”
Rein wasn’t the only one to notice. Thousands of other small business owners were left in the dark when GoDaddy’s servers suddenly were knocked offline. News spread fast across social media and GoDaddy soon acknowledged the problem via Twitter.
“Status Alert: Hey, all. We’re aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We’re working on it,” GoDaddy posted on its Twitter account.
Hours later the company sent this update, “Most customer hosted sites back online. We’re working out the last few kinks for our site & control centers. No customer data compromised.”
A member of the online hacker group anonymous has since claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming they were testing the safety of GoDaddy’s cyber security. You can read more here about the hacker’s stated motives.
