Update: Huntsville Police Say Shooting On Wellman Ave. Was Self Defense
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Police say they will not charge the shooter in an incident that happened Sunday on Wellman Avenue. Police say the shooting was an act of self defense.
The case will be turned over to the Madison County District Attorney’s office for review.
Police say two people were shot inside a home in the 1600 block of Wellman Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday, September 9. Neighbors say the two victims drove themselves to the hospital moments after the chaotic gunfire rang out, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
“I heard a lot of horrible, nightmarish-type screaming,” said the woman, who was across the street at the time. “I heard a guy saying ‘get out’, then another scream, then heard a car screeching off… From what we heard it was gunshots.”
The owner of the house spoke with WHNT News 19 off-camera. That person told us that they had rented the house out to a young couple who had a history of domestic problems. Neighbors also said that officers had visited the address on more than one occasion recently.
