Jax State Football Ranked No. 24 In The Sports Network Poll
Jacksonville, Ala. - Jacksonville State dropped two spots to No. 24 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 football poll, which was released on Monday.
The Gamecocks were preseason picked No. 22 and remained ranked after leading 10th ranked Arkansas 14-7 early in the second quarter, before finally falling 49-24 to the nationally-ranked Razorbacks.
Sam Houston State remained No. 1, while North Dakota State is a close second and Georgia Southern enters this week at No. 3. Eastern Kentucky is the only other Ohio Valley Conference school ranked, coming in at No. 21, while UT Martin is just outside the Top 25 at No. 28. Tennessee Tech, Eastern Illinois, Murray State, Tennessee State and Southeast Missouri State all received votes.
Jacksonville State will host Chattanooga this Saturday at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium in the home-opener for the Gamecocks. Jax State is 10-2 in home opening games under Jack Crowe, and has won six straight at Burgess-Snow Field in home openers. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
A series that dates all the way back to 1904, the JSU vs UTC rivalry is among the oldest in the Gamecocks’ proud history. Since the series resumed in 2004, Jax State is 5-2 vs Chattanooga and will be looking for its third straight win at home in the series.
