HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – There’s a statewide vote on September 18 concerning a Constitutional Amendment.  Tonight, you can attend a public forum to learn what this vote is about.

The forum begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Huntsville City Hall, at 308 Fountain Circle.

Speakers will discuss the pros and cons of the proposed Amendment.  Dr. Donald Williamson, State Health Officer, is one of the speakers.

The statewide amendment concerns money being released from the Alabama Trust Fund to the State General Fund to cover a large shortfall in the General Fund.  The extra money would cover a loss of money for Alabama prisons, as well as critical health services for Medicaid recipients.

If the Constitutional Amendment fails, many educators fear the state would draw money from the Education Trust Fund to cover the shortfall.
