HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – North Alabama is a very patriotic area. You can see American flags flying at many homes and businesses.
One WHNT News 19 viewer needs our help with some information about what to do with an old flag. Randy Martin asked: “Where can I take my old, weathered American flag to be disposed of properly?”
There are several places you can take your flag, and the people there will dispose of them properly:
- American Legion and VFW posts in your area
- There is a box at Madison City Hall where you can leave a tattered flag
- Local Boy Scouts will take care of the flags during a public ceremony
We also learned that the local Sons of the American Revolution Chapter will pick up your flag or you may bring it by 111 Steele Street in downtown, Huntsville and we will dispose of your with the proper ceremony which includes a color guard.
You may call 256-539-2236 to make arrangements for disposal or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can take care of the flag on your own, but there are very specific requirements you must follow in order to show proper respect to the flag. So unless you know exactly what you are doing, you may want to leave it to the professionals.
