Volunteers Clean Up Sidewalks, Courtyard At Westlawn Middle School
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A group of volunteers from GLBT Advocacy and Youth Services rolled up their sleeves to help the community on Saturday. They did repair work at Westlawn Middle School in Huntsville.
Westlawn is hosting its Community Fair next Saturday, August 11, so the school sounded the troops to help get the school in tip-top shape.
Members of the GLBT Advocacy and Youth Services helped paint sidewalks, fix up the courtyard, and clean up the school.
“Our organization is just really adamant about doing community service. We need to be visible, we need people to know that we’re here,” said James Robinson, Executive Director. “We’re your brothers and sisters, we’re your parents in many cases, we’re your neighbors, to help get rid of those negative stereotypes, this is what it’s about. We should be giving back any way we can, when we’re able to.”
Robinson said he hopes when Westlawn students return to the school, the fresh paint and clean landscape will make the courtyard feel like home.
