HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – If you have a Facebook account set up for your baby or pet, be on the lookout. Facebook wants to crack down on those kinds of “fake” profiles.

The social network estimates there are 83 million fake accounts on its system – some innocent and some not. Put another way, Facebook said more than 8 percent of its 955 million monthly active users worldwide are actually duplicate or false accounts.

Facebook will disable any false accounts it finds and although it wipes all information associated with a fake account from public view, it doesn’t delete the account from servers for security reasons.
