Update: Police Identify Man Who Drowned In Sheffield

SHEFFIELD, Ala. (WHNT) – Sheffield Police have identified a man who drowned Sunday in Spring Creek. He was Patrick Irons, 40, of Florence.

Police Chief Greg Ray said crews were called Sunday about 8:30 p.m. when witnesses heard a man calling for help from the water.  The people tried to get to the man, but say he disappeared in the water.

Irons’ body was found about three hours later.

Chief Ray says a truck was pulled down to a boat ramp on the creek, with a wave runner floating nearby.  Police believe Irons may have been trying to load the wave runner when something went wrong.
