New Details: Priceville Couple Faces Slew Of Charges Following Meth Bust

PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Law enforcement agencies busted a huge meth lab in Priceville on Thursday, saying it’s one of the largest they’ve ever seen.  Three children were living in the home as well.

Morgan County sheriff’s deputies and Priceville Police responded to a house on Red Bud Lane around 12 p.m.  Deputies obtained a search warrant after someone called in a tip to the Department of Human Resources and the ‘See Meth Stop Meth’ tip line.

Inside the home, deputies found hundreds of bottles of chemicals, several one-pot meth labs, and the highly volatile red phosphorous meth labs.

Morgan County Sheriff Anna Franklin describes the scene inside the home as one out of an episode of “Hoarders”.

“The roaches are unbelievable, there’s rotting food, maggots, garbage, and somewhere in there in the middle of all that is a baby’s bed,” said Franklin.

Kelly Lane Howard, 44, and his wife, 34-year-old Heather Marie Howard, face multiple drug charges.  Agents say it appears the two had been cooking meth for years, due to the amount of trash and deplorable conditions.

Their children, ages 4, 9 and 12, were taken to Decatur General Hospital for decontamination.  DHR is overseeing their care.

Kelly and Heather Howard are charged with the following:

  • Two counts of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
  • Trafficking methamphetamine
  • Chemical child endangerment
  • Three counts of felony child abuse

The Howards are being held in the Morgan County Jail.  Each has a bond set at $600,000.

After the bust, agents were at the home for nearly 24 hours to dismantle the meth lab.  During this time, one Morgan County deputy was rushed to a nearby hospital for heat exhaustion.

Several agencies participated in the operation to stop the meth lab and clean it up.  The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Hartselle, Priceville and Somerville Fire Departments, as well as the County EMS and Ambulance Services.
