Lawrence County Chief Deputy Harold Knighten

MOULTON, Ala. (WHNT) – A high-ranking official with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is under investigation.  However, the nature of it isn’t clear.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is looking into complaints regarding Chief Deputy Harold Knighten, according to Sheriff Gene Mitchell.

Mitchell said he received complaints about Knighten over the past few weeks, and asked the ABI to step in.

“It is necessary that an outside agency look into the complaints to ensure that a fair and impartial investigation is conducted,” said Sheriff Mitchell.

Chief Knighten is on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
