HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The three Huntsville mayoral candidates debated at Grissom High School Monday night.  The free event was sponsored by the South Huntsville Civic Association.

Tommy Battle, Loretta Spencer and Jackie Reed all took the stage for the 90 minute debate. The candidates were asked about their positions on SB 205, the bill that requires the Huntsville Housing Authority to give more notice when it buys a property.  The legislature passed it in the last session, and Governor Robert Bentley signed it.

Panelist also asked about development plans for the future in south Huntsville and questions about school funding with property taxes.

There’s another debate coming up on August 14.  WHNT News 19, along with The Huntsville Times, the Committee of 100 and Leadership Huntsville-Madison County will host a debate you can watch at home.  Four of the five candidates for mayor in Huntsville and Madison will attend.  Loretta Spencer declined our invitation, citing a previous commitment.

Municipal elections are Tuesday, August 28.
