NEW INFORMATION: One Dead, One Injured in I-565 Wreck

Huntsville Police say one person has died in a wreck on Interstate 565.

A vehicle struck a concrete embankment underneath the Sparkman overpass on the right side of the road while traveling westbound on I-565. 

A passenger in the vehicle, Juantero Gaines, a Huntsville resident, was pronounced dead on scene. The driver was taken to Huntsville Hospital with minor injuries.

It happened Friday evening just after 8:00pm in the westbound lanes.  Police had to shut down I-565 for about two hours while they investigated the crash.  Officers re-routed traffic onto Sparkman Drive.

The wreck is still under investigation by Huntsville Police Department.
