HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Grab your fishing rods and head to Bridge Street on July 4th.

Hold on… you’re probably thinking, ‘Did I read that correctly?’

Yes, you did.  On July 4th, Bridge Street Town Centre will host Fishin’ On The 4th, a free fishing rodeo for children.  It will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the west side of Bridge Street’s lake.

“The lake was originally stocked with several species of fish to create a unique ecosystem with sustainable fish populations,” said Marty Dubey, Marketing Director for Bridge Street Town Centre.  “Normally, we don’t allow fishing in the lake.  However, after five years, the lake has become over-populated with bass and bluegill and it is necessary to balance the populations by removing some of each.”

There will be prizes in different age categories ranging from toddlers to age 15.  After the kids’ rodeo, adults can fish the lake until 3 p.m.

Please bring your own fishing equipment and check in at the tent on the west side of the lake.  You can buy live bait on site, or bring your own.  You may only use live bait.

You can keep the fish you catch, or put them in a live tank provided by Aqua Services of Guntersville to be relocated elsewhere.
