Employees Use YouTube To Track Down Cell Phone Thief
A cell phone thief who ripped off a Huntsville computer store can now relive his notorious deed on YouTube, thanks to fed up employees who want him brought to justice.
The man who appeared to be posing as a customer walked into the Powerbook Medic Store last Wednesday and approached the front desk being manned by a receptionist. Once the receptionist left to find a manager, the unidentified man quickly leaned over and swiped her unattended IPhone before casually strolling out of the store.
Store managers say the same thief had come in a few hours earlier, attempting to sell them another phone that may have been stolen as well. An initial police report yielded no luck, but since posting the surveillance video on YouTube Tuesday, employees have managed to obtain the suspect’s name and phone number from tipsters who watched the video.
“He had come in the store earlier that day, I think several times,” said Powerbook Medic employee Eric Crumpton. “Figured we’d put it out there and see if anybody knows the guy…Since then we’ve gotten the guy’s name, phone number and where he lives.”
The new information has led to the obvious question of who the thief is. A police report has been filed, but there has yet to be an arrest in the case. WHNT News 19 has a policy of not releasing a suspect’s name until that person has been charged with a crime.
