Swedish-based retail clothing juggernaut H&M opened their first Alabama store at Huntsville's Bridge Street Town Centre Thursday.

Hundreds showed up hours in advance for the chance to be the first 250 customers in line to receive free prizes.

Shopper Hilda Waldrop has experience with H&M. She's shopped at the Paris, France loction.

"Fabulous store," said Hilda as she waited patiently Thursday, "Great designs and great prices you cannot beat."

Hilda also says she believes the clothing store choosing Huntsville as their first Alabama location is a huge nod to a growing Rocket City.

"We will get the traffic from Birmingham and Nashville because they do not have a store like this one, and that's good news for our city," Waldrop said.

In business since 1947, H&M boasts over 2,300 stores in 43 countries and as of 2011 employed around 94,000 people. It is ranked the second largest global clothing retailer, just behind Spain-based Inditex (parent company of ZARA), and leads over third largest global clothing retailer, United States based GAP Inc.
