An elderly man remains in the hospital after being beaten during a home invasion.

Lauderdale County sheriff's deputies say the robber left the man for dead.

The man was home alone when someone kicked in his door, tied him up with electrical tape, and then beat the 84-year-old with a pistol.  Deputies say the robber got away a couple hundred dollars in cash.

Lauderdale County Sheriff, Ronnie Willis says when the victim gained consciousness he managed to drive himself to a nearby family members home where they then called 911.

“We want to get this person in jail, and someone who does this, needs to be in jail,” said Willis.

The brutal attack took place along a busy stretch of Highway 20 in broad daylight.

According to deputies, the home invasion happened around 11 o’clock on Memorial Day, all key details, the sheriff hopes may help catch the robber.

“I feel like someone seen someone with a mask on, and if they did, I hope they call us and let us know,” said Willis.
