Today’s churches are changing.
From aps, to Facebook, Twitter, and text messaging, social media and technology is changing the way Americans worship.
In the Tennessee Valley, churches are going way beyond slapping up a simple website, faith organizations are reaching out to larger audiences and engaging their followers easier and faster than ever before.
It used to be you would have to come to a church building to register a prayer request, now it is as simple as sending an email or text message, and instantly those prayers can be passed along to the entire congregation.
“It makes it more interactive and it keeps congregations, even the larger ones, feeling a bit smaller,” youth minister Toby Chastain with the Hartselle United Methodist Church, told WHNT News 19.
With a few clicks Chastain can pass along everything from prayer request, to changes in schedules.
“This is really changing the way we do our jobs, I can be out working in the community more with the kids and sending information from my mobile device instead of being stuck behind a desk,” Chastain added.
Nationwide over 70 percent of churches report having a website and a growing number of faith-based organizations are turning to other social media sites and specialized services to connect their members.
