Chad Boughner won his sixth consecutive start as the University of North Alabama baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Christian Brothers with a 7-4 victory. Boughner, now 8-2 overall, pitched seven solid innings before giving way to the bullpen as UNA improved to 31-11 overall and 11-7 in the Gulf South Conference.

CBU used two hits and two errors to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but UNA rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single by Jake Sloan. The Lions then pushed their lead to 7-2 before CBU added two late runs. In the third inning, UNA added two more runs as Sloan singled and scored on an RBI-single by Josh Cyr, and J.P. LaMunyon reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a Josh Carpenter sacrifice fly.

In the fourth Michael Schmidt doubled and scored on a Josh Doyle RBI-single. Then in the sixth, Darrmal Moore singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a triple by Schmidt.

Boughner gave up a run in the seventh on three singles before departing. He allowed three runs on eight hits over seven innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts. The win was the 23rd of his career and he now stands in second place in UNA history with a 23-8 record. Jacob Westerhouse pitched one inning of relief, allowing a run on one hit. Ben Seabrook pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 11th save of the season.

Schmidt led UNA at the plate with three hits.

The Buccaneers fall to 10-27 overall and 3-15 in the GSC.
