After helping Alabama win four games last week, which included a road win at South Alabama and a sweep of No. 23 Auburn, Crimson Tide center fielder Taylor Dugas was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday. This is the first time in his four-year career at Alabama that Dugas has earned a SEC player of the week award.

Dugas, a Lafayette, La., native, led the Tide with a .529 (9-for-17) average, that included a double, two triples, a home run, seven RBI and five runs scored. After going 3-for-5 against South Alabama on April 3, Dugas hit .462 (6-for-13) with five RBI, three runs scored, a double, a triple and a home run, as Alabama swept No. 23 Auburn for the first time since 2002.

On Friday night, Dugas delivered his third triple of the season with the bases load and two outs in the eighth inning, to help Alabama to a 10-6 win over Auburn. That three-bagger broke the school record for triples, giving him 14 for his career to pass Emeel Salem. Dugas also doubled in the opening game of the Auburn series to tie Dave Magadan for the school record with 64 career doubles. The leadoff double on Friday night was his 300th career hit, and he now ranks fifth all-time at Alabama with 305 base knocks.

On Saturday he was 2-for-4 with a single and a home run against the Tigers. The home run came with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Tide trailing 3-2. He hit a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall for a two-run walk-off home run to lift Alabama to a 4-3 win over the No. 23 ranked Tigers. It was the first time in his four-year career at Alabama that he produced a walk-off hit.

Additionally, he had multiple hits in all four games, and is now hitting .350 for the season. He also had two walks and a HBP for a .600 on-base percentage for the week. He has reached base in all 32 games this year, and including 12 straight to end the 2011 season, he has reached base safely in 44 consecutive games.

Dugas shared the weekly honor with Kentucky’s Luke Maile. LSU’s Brent Bonvillain was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week and South Carolina’s Jordan Montgomery was the conference’s freshman of the week.

Alabama returns to the diamond on Tuesday night when it hosts UAB at 6:05 p.m., at Sewell Thomas Stadium. UA then travels to Southeastern Louisiana for a 6 p.m., game on Wednesday, before resuming SEC play at No. 5 LSU this weekend.
