NFL Players Motivate Students in the Shoals

They perform under the bright lights of a national football stadium and on the big screen.

But these talented men from the Shoals area went back to their hometowns to help spread their success stories and motivate students.

Students at Brooks High School gather round Shoals native, Cedric Pendleton as he tells his story of success.

Pendleton grew up in Florence but since has graced the TV screen making appearances on C.S.I and NYPD Blue.  He’s an inspiration to many in his hometown and now he’s taking his message of motivation to students in the shoals.

“It`s like anything else really worth having, you`re gonna have to sacrifice to some degree to get what you want but the benefits and the rewards for it, far outweigh the hardships that you face,” said Pendleton.

This Motivate Your Minds project also brings NFL players back to their roots.  Years ago, Jason Allen played for the Muscle Shoals Trojans.  Now he’s playing for the Cincinnati Bengals.  It’s a long way from home, but he says he always remembers where he came from.

“I`m part of this group because it gives me a chance to give back to my home town here to show the kids and the community that we care about them, we are here to motivate them, inspire them and give them a form of passion to get behind what their goals are,” said Allen.

And for the organizer of the Motivate Your Minds project, it’s these kind of discussions, from talented locals that he says may have made a difference in his life.  “I believe if I woulda had that maybe I woulda made a better decision than what I made personally,” said James Edwards.

The goal for this group is for these students to break their goal of the status quo and strive for excellence.

This group of athletes and TV stars will hold a Morning of Motivation conference, Saturday April 7th at 10:00 a.m. for middle and high school students at the Shoals Marriot Hotel conference room.  Tickets are $20.00.

At 7:00 p.m. the group an Evening of Empowerment session for parents and adults.
