Rome, GA Man Drowns At Little River Canyon

A Rome, Georgia man drowned at Little River Canyon National Preserve in DeKalb County on Sunday.

According to Troy Mueller, Chief Ranger at the Preserve, Ramirez Austin tried to swim across Little River with some friends, at the Martha’s Falls area.  His friends saw him go under the water, but he never came up.

They notified rangers at 2:20 p.m. Sunday.  Members of the Fisher Rescue Squad, Adamsburg Fire Department and Cherokee County Rescue worked together in the effort.  Divers found Austin’s body just before 5 p.m.

Austin was 24 years old.

The National Park Service is investigating the incident.
