Jane Smith will serve one year probation and has been ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

Smith, who just won the Republican nomination to serve a third term as Madison County Circuit Clerk, agreed to plead guilty to charges that she gave out her password to Alabama’s highly-confidential court information system to an outside contractor.  Monday morning, a federal magistrate judge accepted the plea agreement, and she was sentenced.

Smith has no Democratic challenger in November.
