A Marshall County Judge won’t be on the Republican ballot, but he says he’s not out of the race after all.  Tuesday, Howard Hawk announced he would run as an independent to try to win his seat again.

It’s not a done deal — Hawk must collect enough signatures to be on the November ballot.  He must turn those in by March 13, the day of the primary.  Hawk estimates he has to collect nearly 800 signatures, but will aim for more.

Earlier this month, the Marshall County Republican Committee blocked Judge Hawk from running on the GOP ballot.  He ran as a Democrat in 2006 but switched parties after Republicans swept Alabama’s elections in 2010.

Another Republican qualified at the last minute, Jerry Baker.  He is a an attorney in Albertville.  No Democrats qualified to run for the seat.
